Welcome

Hello and welcome to Christopher Webb's Studio Blog. If you are here, than you are most likely interested in your kids or yourself taking lessons. I am excited to teach, starting in January of next year and look forward to starting my studio with four to five students. These will be primarily children ages 6-12 (older is alright) who have had little to no piano experience with a teacher. My studio policies are attached below. As of right now, I am looking at Bastion, Alfred, and Suzuki books to teach out of. If you have any questions, please comment or contact me. I hope I have included everything, but if not, just let me know. I will respond as soon as I can. Thanks!

Studio Information

Curriculum: My three principle objectives as a piano teacher are to teach students to: play the piano musically, sight-read well, and enjoy the music that they play. Every student will have different goals and ideas about what they want to achieve. I look forward to fitting their needs as well as parents’ needs into the curriculum. Success is dependent on diligent effort, and as such, I expect each student to try his/her best.

Lesson Calendar: Lessons are 30 minutes long. I will teach Tuesday through Thursday from …

Make-up Policy: Lessons can be made up if a conflict arises, but usually only during regular teaching hours. Students are encouraged to try to switch lesson times with another student, if possible.

Master Class: Master Class is an important part of the curriculum. Because we will not have recitals, master class provides an alternate way for students to share their talents with others. It is an opportunity for them to play for their peers and receive instruction in front of them. It will generally last about sixty minutes. We will try to hold a master class about every two months, and adjust as needed.

Tuition: Tuition will be forty dollars a month, for four thirty-minute lessons. Master Class is held in lieu of regular lessons that week, and as such, counts for a lesson. Tuition is due on the first day of each month. I will teach in the summer if the student and parent desire.

Materials: I request that each student bring a three-ring binder filled with lined paper. This will be where the student keeps a portion of their music as well as where I will write their practicing assignment for the week. Often times, I will simply make photocopies for students to use because the whole book is not a necessary purchase. But, we will find books as needs and desires dictate. A metronome is highly recommended.

Practicing: Practicing is essential to the development of piano skills. I ask that each student practice at least thirty minutes a day, five days a week. Generally, the practicing assignment will take about that long. It is important that the student remember that it is perfect practice that makes perfect playing. Not mere practice. For a point of references, I practice the piano between 10-14 hours per week (1.5 - 2.5 hours/day).

Lesson Etiquette: Hands should be clean and nails trimmed. Gum will not be allowed. Students may come to my home (170 West 140 North, Orem) or I will come to theirs as circumstances dictate. The thirty minutes will be spent wisely and effectively.

Parent-Teacher Consultation: I look forward to addressing and understanding student’s needs with parents. You can call me at (801) 885 4177. You may also email me at elderswebb@gmail.com at any time.

My Piano Background: I have been studying piano for nearly eight years and am proficient, perform at concerts regularly and have won festivals and competitions. I have learned to sight-read and accompany and look forward to sharing these skills. I studied with Joyce Wheeler for six years and now study with Jill Winters, dual maters of arts (MA) in piano performance (pedagogy) and choral conducting. I am confident that I will be able to teach your children well.
